Garbage discarded by people on the beach has been placing threats to the environment and ecology. To practice University Social Responsibility (USR), Cheng Shiu University organized cross-generation environmental education and beach cleaning activities in Linyuan Marine Wetland Park, during which many plastic products and man-made waste were cleared up. Ching-Yun Hsu, Dean of the School of Life and Creativity, hoped that the beach cleaning activities could awaken more people to join in protecting the local environment and contribute to environment and ecological conservation.

The Linyuan District USR program of Cheng Shiu University approved by the Ministry of Education, “eating with assurance, aging with health and living a Lohas life together in a new Linyuan”, mainly focuses on health promotion and food safety. It is operated with four main axles: “friendly environment with food safety”, “food safety positioning for value-added marketing “, “building a community promoting health of elders” and “mutual help between youth and old generations”. The objectives are to check the food safety for producers and consumers, attract more external investment, establish care sites and make the elderly live healthier.

In order to arouse the public’s attention to environmental protection awareness, the program host, Ching-Yun Hsu, Dean of the School of Life and Creativity, specially called on the students of Cheng Shiu University and the elders of Chengqing Senior Club to Linyuan Ocean Wetland Park for cross-generation environmental education and beach cleaning activities.

On the day of the activity, Wen-Hua Su, a teacher of mangrove conservation society, guided the teachers and students to understand Linyuan Marine Wetland Park and Mangrove Ecological Area by walkthrough and practical experience, so as to strengthen the young and elder generations’ concept of ecological environment conservation.

During the beach cleaning activities in Ocean Wetland Park, the faculty and students of Cheng Shiu University and the elderly found a lot of garbage. They worked hand in hand to clean up a lot of plastic products and man-made garbage. Through this activity, teachers and students deeply realized the urgency of environmental education. We only have one Earth, which needs to be taken good care of.

Ching-Yun Hsu, Dean of the School of Life and Creativity of Cheng Shiu University, expected more people to be awakened by the beach cleaning activities to protect the local environment and contribute to environment and ecological conservation.
